Lambretta Parts

It seems more and more scooter dealers are importing Lambretta parts from Indian suppliers, with new shops and outlets opening almost daily are we soon to be flooded with cheep parts? Well if the answer is yes, then in reality this can only mean cheaper parts for the end user. The trouble with the Indian market is that sometimes their quality is not as important as price compared to European an US markets, so although we can all expect cheaper parts, what about the reliability of our machines. Scooters India Ltd purchased the Lambretta factory way back in the early seventies, but since then the factory has not development new machines. Many parts that are not manufactured for or by SIL, pattern or copied parts, are often cheaper alternatives to keep the home market ageing machines on the road.

New outlets for these parts appear almost daily, even boasting special opening offers with one breath, and twenty years experience with the other (work that one out) so how can you be sure of what you are buying. Truth is you have to rely on your supplier, hopefully many will be honest and reputable, others well lets just say beware.

Having said all that, many Indian made parts are currently the only parts available for classic Lambretta owners, and those that are made for or supplied by SIL are of good quality and construction. As with all spare parts, pattern parts are always big business, we all need to make sure they are the right quality though.
